My Autumn Wardrobe Reset: What I’m Keeping, Buying & Letting Go
Now that September’s here, I’m fully in my autumn mindset. I might be a summer baby, but I’ve never really been a fan of the heat, it’s my worst nightmare lol. I’m more than ready for cooler days, cosy layers, and just a bit of a reset. I’ve started going through my wardrobe and figuring out what I’m keeping (which is most of it tbh), what I want to add, and what I’m ready to let go of, so I thought I would share it all with you!
KEEPING
So, I don’t have a massive wardrobe, and I’m not really a hoarder either, so this section is pretty easy for me as most of my clothes are here to stay. The coat in the picture above is my autumn winter staple. It’s actually from PLT (!!!). I picked it up a couple of years ago for £15 (!!!) in a huge sale. It is from their Tall range, so I will say it’s a bit too long on me, but honestly it’s one of the most complimented coats I own!
I also have a faux fur jacket from Mango which is such a staple for me this time of year. Shoes are pretty simple in autumn winter, I always reach for my Dr Martens, a pair of Vans, and my Isabel Marant Becketts.
I’ve also got a leather jacket that I actually got for free, and it’s probably the most worn piece in my wardrobe. It’s from Millie Mackintosh’s old clothing line and it’s seriously so good.
For bottoms, I tend to either stick to really classic straight leg jeans or some really baggy barrel leg jeans. I’ve actually just ordered a pair of straight leg leopard print jeans from Zara to try, which I’m very excited about.
BUYING
I’ve managed to bag a couple of pieces in the sales that I’m obsessed with, one being some snow boots for a ski trip next year, and the other being a Mango jacket that I genuinely cannot stop talking about. As I always say, shop out of season for the best buys.
I know I’m due a restock on some good basics, but I want to find ones that actually wash well because mine are definitely starting to look a bit tired. I’ll let you know when I find the crème de la crème. I never rush to fill a gap, just because something ticks a box doesn’t mean it’s the one. If the fit, material, or colour isn’t quite right, I’ll leave it. Being a bit fussy is what helps build a wardrobe you’ll actually wear again and again.
I’m also keeping an eye out for a navy or black extra long tailored coat as well as a leather one. I seem to live in the charcoal pinstripe PLT one so I’m after another option.
Another thing on the ever growing wishlist has to be some Adrian Cashmere pieces. It’s definitely on the pricier side though, so I think that one might be staying firmly on the wishlist for now lol.
LETTING GO
As my wardrobe is quite tight, there’s nothing major that I’ll be getting rid of. That said, I have sold quite a bit on Vinted over the past couple of weeks. Earlier this year I bought a pair of Pull & Bear suede biker boots. I actually got them in the sale for such a good price that I ended up buying two pairs, but I’ve only worn them once and I know I won’t be reaching for them this year, so they had to go!
It’s mostly been summer pieces I didn’t wear this year, things I’ve never actually worn, or items that just don’t feel like me anymore. A few bits were also just looking a little tired, so they also had to go.
Vinted is my absolute go to for selling old clothes, it’s such an easy process and honestly, your trash is someone else’s treasure. Never think “no one will buy this” because you’d be surprised!
